The differential is an integral part used
to transmit an average amount of torque while taking a turn. It also helps in
transmitting motion from transmission shaft to wheels at the right angle.
The other function of the differential is
to multiply power from the engine as it helps to accelerate the vehicle easily.
The differential contains gears assembled
to transfer average amount of torque to bolt the wheels. The Differential Assembly Parts are as follows:
• Flange-
The flange is located at the driver shaft and acts as a supporter for the
shaft.
• Pinion
Gear- The pinion gear is located at the end of the differential shaft
and is meshed with the big ring gear and transmits power to the ring gear.
• Ring
Gear- It is the biggest gear in the differential and contains two fixed
spider gears on it.
• Spider
Gears- The spider gears are located in the heart of the differential and
can rotate in two directions. These gears help in transmitting average torque
to the rear wheels.
• Side
Gears- The side gears are connected with the rear axle to provide the
power to the axle by engaging with the spider gears.
• Axle
Shaft- It is located between side gears and wheels and is used to
transfer power from differential to wheels.
Summary: The
Differential Assembly Parts mainly includes gears that are pinion gear,
side gear, ring gear and spider gear. Thus gears are the only thing in
differential which helps in providing an average amount of torque to the wheels
while turning.
