Bevel gears are the special category of gears used to
transfer power in intersecting shafts only.
The pitch surface and the pitch angle are the important
terms to be focused while manufacturing bevel gears. The bevel gears contain an
acute angle thus forms a conical shape. Such gears are known as external gears
because the teeth point out in the outward direction. While the bevel gears
containing obtuse angle are known as internal gears.
The typical process of bevel gear manufacturing is as
follows:
• Raw material:
The selection of the raw material depends on the application of the bevel
gears.
• Sawing: In this process, the raw
material is divided into small segments.
• Turning:
This process is performed on lathe machine and is done to provide a gear blank
shape.
• Gear cutting:
It is done by a conflict generator to provide the shape of the teeth on its
surface.
• Debarring:
The burrs generated in gears cutting are removed in this process.
• Surface finish:
The finish is done with the help of black oxide to prevent the gears from
rusting.
• Packing:
To provides safe and secure delivery the bevel gears are packed in an
individual package.
Summary: The bevel gear manufacturing is
little complex than others. The material used in manufacturing depends on many
factors like its use, the speed of running etc. The two concepts in gearing are
pitch angle and pitch surface. For Bevel gearing, they must have the same
module for smooth working.
